A water mite (Hydrachnidia) in dorsal view, photographed under a microscope using an 8x objective. The specimen was collected in June 2026 from a pond in Rakvere, Estonia. The image clearly shows the typical rounded body of a water mite, the surface structure of the cuticle and two red eyes at the front of the body (at the bottom of the image). The four pairs of legs are covered with long setae, characteristic of swimming water mites. The image was captured using reflected light against a black background, which particularly emphasizes the cuticle structure and the fine details of the legs. The image was created using focus stacking technique and combined from 68 frames, which ensures great depth of field throughout the subject.
