A micrograph showing four ostracods (Ostracoda), also known as seed shrimp, positioned around a central water bubble. These specimens were collected from an old mine near the town of Rakvere, Estonia. Photographed against a dark background using reflected light, the image clearly details the external surface of their bivalved shells. Visible features include the slightly granular texture of the shell, brown pigmentation patterns, and fine sensory hairs (setae) along the margins. A dark eyespot is also discernible near the anterior end, allowing the animal to sense its environment through the casing. The image was captured under a microscope using an 8x objective. A focus stacking technique was applied to maintain sharp detail across the curved surfaces of the shells and the central water bubble.
