A micrograph capturing two different crustaceans in lateral view. On the left is a larger water flea of the genus Simocephalus, whose semi-transparent shell reveals internal structures. To its right is a significantly smaller, oval-shaped ostracod, also known as a seed shrimp. The surface texture and details of both animals' shells are emphasized by the use of reflected light microscopy. The image was created using an 8x objective and focus stacking technique to achieve greater depth of field.
