A female wolf spider (Pardosa amentata) with her spiderlings on her back. This photo captures a female wolf spider carrying her babies on her back. Despite her intimidating appearance, she is incredibly shy, only emerging from her hiding spot to bask in the warmth of the sun with her young. When I approached too quickly with my camera, she disappeared in an instant, retreating into the undergrowth. It took a great deal of patience before she resurfaced and settled between the leaves, allowing me to finally take this shot. It was taken in Zug and is a handheld focus stack with 30 shots.
