This image of the Orion Nebula is taken in an exotic palette that maps near infrared data to the red image channel, \[S II\] emission to the green image channel, and \[O III\] emission to the blue image channel. Continuum sources, such as stars and the central reflection nebulosity in the Trapezium, show up in reddish hues. Narrowband emissions from fluorescing gas in the nebula show up in green and blue.
