Designed in 1884 by architect Enrico Azzati, this luxurious hotel was conceived for Leghorn's seaside tourism and hosted illustrious figures such as King Umberto I, Queen Margherita of Savoy and Guglielmo Marconi. The roof of the building, subject to countless modifications over the decades, was substantially redone during the last restoration; this made it possible to enhance the small towers that characterise the top of the hotel, where tradition has it that Guglielmo Marconi carried out some experiments on Telegraphy due to its strategic location.
