The European bee-eater's diet consists primarily of bees, stingless bees, gall wasps, and various other flying insects. Once it catches one, it typically tosses the insect into the air before swallowing it. This behavior actually helps the bird reposition the prey so that it goes down the right way, making the whole process much easier.
