Canoes on the coast, Tsitsikamma National Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa Tsitsikamma National Park is located on the famous Garden Route in the Eastern Cape province. It was established in 1964 and was one of Africa’s first marine national parks. Today, it is part of the larger Garden Route National Park. The name “Tsitsikamma” comes from the Khoikhoi language and means “place with plenty of water”. The park protects an impressive coastal landscape with steep cliffs, dense evergreen forests, and a species-rich marine area. The suspension bridges at the mouth of the Storms River are famous for their spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. In addition to coastal and marine conservation, the park also includes parts of the original Afro-montane forest with large yellowwood trees.
