The Munich Residenz is a city palace in Munich and was the residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings. Monumental elongated facade in two to three storeys with raised corner pavilions, with a loggia of figures by Ludwig Schwanthaler in front of the central avant-corps; the western section incorporates the previous building (the Kaisersaal wing) from the early 17th century, rebuilt by Leo von Klenze between 1832 and 1842; the eastern pavilion and adjoining rear wing were remodelled for the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
