View of the former GDR border observation tower on the Thuringian side. It stands at some distance from the border, and due to its height it offered an increased range. On the roof is a spotlight for observation at night or in poor lighting conditions. The tower is symbolic of the division of Germany, the Wall and the omnipresent surveillance in the GDR.
