Helmstadt-Bargen, Germany, district Bargen: ceiling of the Roman Catholic Saint Peter and Paul Church, built in 1904 in Gothic Revival style. The paining of the wooden ceiling is astonishing for such a small church and preserved well. At the top a part of the painted organ gallery. The central painting shows the Veil of Veronica and the instruments of the passion; the angel at the bottom holds a banner saying “In the cross is salvation” (quoted from Thomas à Kempis, De imitatione Christi, chapter 12).
