Porous star coral (Astreopora myriophthalma), Red Sea, Egypt. This hard coral is found in shallow waters in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans. It occupies a variety of reef habitats at depths between 3 and 20 m (10 and 66 ft), but avoids turbid water. The corallites are conical, evenly distributed over the surface and have a diameter of 4 millimetres (0.16 in); each has a circular, upright or outwardly-pointing opening.
