Bridge at the heart pond in the wildlife park in Dülmen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany The wildlife park was designed in 1864 by English landscape architect Edward Milner as the “Amended Plan of Park Dülmen Westphalia” and laid out in 1868 by Charles Barnard, a gardener who also came from England. It is a classic landscape park with extensive meadows and a system of circular paths, which is also used for forestry. The park features the Herzteich pond with a small island, the moat of the former Schultenhof Hinderkinck farm, and a forester’s lodge near the moat. At the end of the 19th century, among other things, the park was expanded through the acquisition of additional properties. With the construction of the Bundesautobahn 43 in the 1970s, it was reduced in size by approximately 250 hectares.
