IMO 9668570 Hopper Dredger "Spauwer", Netherlands , built 2017 by Daoda Heavy Industries, Qidong, China; length 142.80 m, width 21.06 m, draught 8.50 m, performance 10972 hp; Bremerhaven, Germany. The picture shows Hopper Dredger "Spauwer" in action in the port of Bremerhaven. Hopper dredgers are dredging vessels used, for example, to clear or deepen shipping channels. The dredged material, the riverbed, is sucked in as a soil-water mixture through a suction head and a suction pipe and pumped into the ship's cargo hold. The water sucked in, which serves as a transport medium, flows largely back overboard during the loading process
